This was an old style garden. It had been an attractive garden based on a Japanese style, but now looked tired with many of the plants over-grown. It needed re-styling to add colour and interest while retaining many of the mature feature plants. The garden was given a new entrance and the layout was modified to include a small ornamental pond and dramatically planted beds. The result was a complete transformation from the old, yet retaining the designed look of the original garden.
Updating a Japanese style garden with colour and interest.
The success of this garden was due to the way the basic design elements of colour, form and texture come together in the overall composition. This can be achieved with a small space, such as you might see at the Chelsea Flower Show. Small gardens like this one can be little gems.
