After building the main structure,
the next stage is to prepare the pond for filling with water. The bottom of the pond is screeded with a finishing layer of concrete to give it a floor which can be vacuumed to keep it clean. Once the concrete was cured, the pond was filled with water tapped from the spring, which continued to flow at a rate of 1 gallon per minute.
The layout plan illustrates the main swimming area surrounded with a wide marginal gravel and plant area which form the filter beds. Water from the main pond is pumped through the filter beds and returned re-oxygenated back to the swimming pool. A range of wildlife is attracted to the filter beds which are not intended for swimming. Beyond the marginal filter beds, the borders are landscaped.
