Swimpond Project - Filling the Structure and Landscaping the Perimeter

After building the main structure, the next stage is to prepare the pond for filling with water. The bottom of the pond is screeded with a finishing layer of concrete to give it a floor which can be vacuumed to keep it clean. Once the concrete was cured, the pond was filled with water tapped from the spring, which continued to flow at a rate of 1 gallon per minute.

The layout plan illustrates the main swimming area surrounded with a wide marginal gravel and plant area which form the filter beds. Water from the main pond is pumped through the filter beds and returned re-oxygenated back to the swimming pool. A range of wildlife is attracted to the filter beds which are not intended for swimming. Beyond the marginal filter beds, the borders are landscaped.
